Kir, Reverse Manhattan and Rum Grog
In this video, Chef Pépin prepares some of his favorite cocktails to make at home.
Makes 1 of each cocktail
Ingredients
Kir
- 1 tablespoon crème de cassis, preferably Joseph Cartron Créme de Cassis
- 4 to 5 ounces dry white wine, chilled
Jacques’ Reverse Manhattan
- Lime wedge
- 4 ounces red vermouth
- 1 ½ tablespoons whiskey
Grog
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ¼ cup dark rum
- 1 to 1 ½ cups boiling water
Method
Kir
- Pour the crème de cassis in the bottom of a wine glass and add white wine. On a hot day you could even add a few ice cubes.
- Should you wish to step this up a notch, substitute Champagne or sparkling wine for the white wine to make a Kir Royale!
Jacques’ Reverse Manhattan
- Fill a large wine glass or goblet with ice. Squeeze in the juice from the lime wedge and then drop it into the glass. Pour in the vermouth followed by the whiskey and stir together. I like it just like this or you can strain it into a smaller glass such as a Nik & Nora or martini glass.
Grog
- In a sturdy mug, stir the lemon juice, sugar and rum together. Add enough boiling water to fill then stir and sip!
