The stories behind JPF grantees inspire us every day to keep spreading Jacques’ belief that “We are all equal in the eyes of the stove.” One story that we could hear over and over again is the life-changing journey of Chef Missy Terrel, our 2023 Gloria Pépin Memorial Grant winner.
We were delighted to hear Chef Missy tell her story on a recent episode of The Pittsburgh Dish podcast. As a graduate of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh’s culinary training program, she now teaches program participants in the very same kitchen where she was once a student herself. We know how hard she’s worked to get where she is today, and it is incredible to have her now mentoring others as they follow in her footsteps.
In this great video that Chef Missy recorded for the JPF in 2025, we learned a bit about what mentorship means to her. We’re thrilled that she keeps paying it forward in her community, and can’t wait to hear what her next chapter will bring.
