Jacques joined students, staff, and alumni at JPF grantee Community Servings in Jamaica Plain, MA in early December to share his expertise with a hands-on cooking lesson. The class focused on vegetable techniques, classic French sauces, and concluded with a book signing of The Apprentice.
Jacques’ lesson with the students will be available to stream online, but in the meantime, you can become a JPF Member to view over 160 other cooking videos from Jacques and other chefs, including a new video coming in Cook with Jacques Pépin & Friends: Volume 4 from Community Servings alum Jermaine McNeil.
Community Servings was founded in 1990 and their mission is to actively engage the community to provide scratch-made medically tailored meals (MTM) to individuals and their families experiencing critical or chronic illness and nutrition insecurity. Their Teaching Kitchen program is a free 12-week job training program that combines classroom-based learning and on-the-job training to help individuals launch full-time careers in the culinary industry.
Their Food is Medicine and MTM program go above and beyond the core mission of healing and teaching, to ensure that sourcing and vendor relationships have a net positive impact on the sustainability of the local food system. The MTM kitchen prepares and packages over 1 million medically tailored meals a year!
The whole teaching kitchen team extended the support, kindness, and comfort to Jacques and the JPF team that they provide to their students, ensuring success and making everyone feel valued in the kitchen.
Thank you to the team at Community Servings for hosting the JPF for this special cooking demonstration day!
